The District Medical Officer, DMO for the Kumba Health District, Dr. Emmanuel Nefenda Lienya has disclosed that there are over 23 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Kumba, South West Region.
Dr. Nefenda made the revelation in an interview with reporters on May 26, 2020 at the Kumba Health District.
“I am coming on air again to explain the seriousness of the situation in Kumba city. As at yesterday, the total number of coronavirus cases that were detected for a day were nine, that takes us to 23 plus”, the DMO noted.
According to Dr. Nefenda, the increasing number of cases is worrisome and needs urgent attention and vigilance from the population.
“The situation is worrisome. It brings to our notice that all the measures that we have been taking are not effective. It equally brings to our notice that we have to do more to make sure the preventive measures are intensified and things done properly”, he pointed out.
He further called on the population of Kumba to respect the preventive measures of the government: “I am calling on the population of Kumba to always wear their masks, keep social distancing, wash their hands as regularly as possible, don’t shake hands with others or touch surfaces of chairs and tables, ensure to wash hands with soap and running water or sanitise them with alcohol based sanitisers. When we implement the discipline that is needed to protect ourselves, we’ll go a long way to avoid the spread of the coronavirus pandemic that is ravaging our society”, the DMO advised.
Dr. Nefenda further told the population that if they do not take it as a responsibility to implement these measures but rather choose to be indiscipline, they should be aware that coronavirus is next at their door-steps.
