All three new state universities in Cameroon welcomed over 12,000 students this year. Boubakari Oumarou, the rector of the University of Garoua, reported 3,500 students while the University of Bertoua reported 6,200 and the University of Ebolowa, 3,000.
Boubakari Oumarou said the number could increase as pre-registration is still underway at the new education centers. He however stressed that not all of these students are “new enrollees”. Many of them come from other state universities that are already located in the three cities.
