Gov’t involves women and youth in anti-cybercrime fight

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (Minpostel) signed yesterday in Yaoundé two agreements to support the engagement of women and youth in the national anti-cybercrime fight. The deal was signed with two social groups, namely the Department of Women and Social Affairs of the Council of Protestant Churches of Cameroon (for women); and Digital Access (for youth).

“Each group has its roadmap. The women’s group will promote online safety among their peers, with support from our experts (…) Digital Access, which is a youth association, also has its own way of reminding young people of good behaviors to adopt online,” explained the Minpostel, Minette Libom Li Likeng (pictured) on CRTV radio.

Welcoming the initiative, Régine Njiki Botol, the executive secretary of the department of women and social affairs of the Council of Protestant Churches of Cameroon, said the program is a together-work. “This department-led program will train trainers. The first trainees will pass on what they have learned to their peers. Therefore, everyone will be involved,” she said. Young people, for their part, will be trained to use an application capable of detecting fake news and hate speech online, explains Arouna Pountougnigni Mfenjou, the national coordinator of the program to fight fake news and hate speech online.
