Conveners of the Anglophone General Conference, AGC, are putting hands on deck to ensure that the Anglophone General Conference, AGC, that has been a victim of repeated postponements takes place by end of October, 2019 in Buea, an insider has hinted The SUN.
Sounding very confident that the Conference will not be postponed again, our source indicated that they are looking forward to having a meeting with the Prime Minister, Chief Joseph Dion Ngute in the days ahead to make final decisions regarding the Conference.
“We are hoping that after our meeting with the PM all will be fine. For the authorization, there is no problem; it will be given this time around. In fact, we are almost at it,” he disclosed.
As part of preparations towards this long awaited Conference, the Conveners met in Buea, July 24, 2019, and carried out a postmortem of the socio-political and economic problems plaguing the North West and South West regions in particular and Cameroon as a whole. In a press release that ensued from the meeting, July 25, 2019, the Conveners implored the Cameroon Government to “release all detained in connection with the current Anglophone crisis and other national politically related issues…, to grant a general amnesty and a nolleprosequi in accordance with the law to all arrested in this political crisis.
This, according to our source within the conveners, will create a favourable environment for the conference, and will prove good faith on the part of the government.
As the date for the AGC draws closer, conveners maintain that “the crisis, which is causing an existential threat to the country must be handled and led by Cameroonians because it’s a Cameroon matter first and foremost”. They agreed to welcome external interventions “which must be led by a pool of countries and international organisations, whose roles should be clearly defined as supervisory and guarantors of the implementation arrived at any dialogue or negotiations.”
The conveners are happy with the North West and South West Women’s Task Force that has joined them. This according to them recognizes the precious roles of women in bringing about truth, peace and stability to the crisis-hit North West and South West regions and Cameroon as a whole.
