At 3rd edition of ROCULF: Royal Chiefdom of Limbe celebrates culture in unity

For three remarkable years, the Royal Chiefdom of Limbe has been on a mission to rekindle its rich cultural heritage. This year’s celebration, the third edition of the Royal Cultural Limbe Festival (ROCULF) 2025, was a vibrant showcase of diversity under the theme: Cultural diversity for unity and progress.

Under the patronage of the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, Engelbert Viang Mekala, the festival took place over two days, where locals gathered to enjoy an array of cultural displays. This year’s festival saw a significant increase in activities and attendance. A highlight was the tombola draw, which left many families returning home with new household treasures, a testament to the joy and excitement that ROCULF brings. The festival featured a plethora of engaging activities: from a sports walk and an ecumenical service to cultural evenings filled with traditional dances. Attendees were treated to tug-of-war competitions, traditional wrestling matches, choral singing performances, and thrilling canoe races. Each activity celebrated not just competition but community spirit.

HRM King Bell of Douala represented the National Council of Traditional Authorities at this year’s event.

He expressed heartfelt joy in participating and emphasised his commitment to supporting future festivals.

The vision bearer of the festival, HM Ikanea Elufa John Manga Williams, First Class Ruler of Limbe, passionately highlighted that there is no better way to revive Limbe’s culture than through such festivals. He reiterated the importance of preserving cultural heritage while thanking fellow traditional leaders from various regions who joined in the celebration.

 

This year’s ROCULF was not merely about hard work; it reflected the unique nature and warm-heartedness of Limbe’s people. The success story is one woven with peace and unity qualities that shine brightly within this community.

Patron, Viang Mekala celebrates initiative

The Chairman of the festival, Viang Mekala,  shared his delight at witnessing diverse traditional dance displays from across Cameroon. He particularly acknowledged the Benin community residing in Limbe for their vibrant participation and encouraged them to continue fostering peaceful coexistence within Cameroon. Emphasising peace as essential for cultural development, Mekala stated, “Thanks to the peace reigning in our Division, Subdivision, villages, we can gather and organise activities like this one.” He urged everyone to invite friends and family for next year’s festivities.

The National Bilingualism and Multiculturalism Commission’s South West Branch also made its presence felt at ROCULF 2025 by distributing flyers promoting peaceful coexistence among communities.

ROCULF is said to be more than just an event; it is a movement towards unity through culture, a reminder that our diversity strengthens all.
