The ongoing socio-political crisis has affected most businesses including the supply and sale of drinks in the city of Kumba, leading to the closure of many bars and drinking spots.
Owners of drinking spots and hotels have lamented on the non-supply of drinks in the town of Kumba that has made them to go almost out of business.
Some who spoke to The SUN disclosed that they have closed their bars because of the non-supply of drinks in the town.
“Things are very difficult now, we were forced to close our bars because there are no drinks for us to sell to the population,” they noted.
This, according to many, has made it difficult for them to provide for the increased number of persons they now host in their houses.
Visiting some popular bars and hotels around town, most of them have closed their doors for over a month thereby rendering them jobless and increasing the number of unemployed persons in the town.
“We have nothing doing now; we have been restricted from our job and source of income. Most youths used to generate income during the holidays in this sector to assist them for back to school,” a bar owner said.
Others have however, taken the option to purchase drinks in other towns. This option has equally witnessed an increase of FCFA 200 in the cost of a bottle of drink.
In order to reduce cost, some have also taken the option to terminate the contracts of some of the waiters and waitresses.
“Before now, my snack used to operate during the day and at night, we had ten waiters and waitresses employed to do the job but only two are presently employed,” a bar manager told The SUN.
Worth nothing is the fact that aside the non-supply of drinks in the town of Kumba, most businesses and activities have been grounded ever since the crisis escalated.
