The President of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, Peter Mafany Musonge has called for the speeding up of their action plan implementation so that Cameroonians can feel the impact of their work all over the national territory.
Addressing members last January 31, 2019 at the commission’s conference room at Emergence Building in Yaounde during their first Ordinary Board session for this year, Peter Mafany Musonge who confidently declared that “our Commission will go to higher heights in 2019,” urged all members to do their best to facilitate the acceleration of their action plan so that Cameroonians who are becoming very impatient can see palpable actions in the promotion of bilingualism, multilingualism and living together as prescribed by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya.
The session attended by the Vice President, Oumarou Djika Saidou, the Secretary General, Dr Chi Asafor Cornelius as the rapporteur and all the members including Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle whom rumours claimed was not in good terms with the commission’s hierarchy recently featured the examination of the activity report for 2018, examination of the report on the putting in place of the missions of the commission in 2018, examination of the 2019 budget of the commission and a presentation of a working document entitled “introduction to Cameroonian Multiculturalism” produced by the working group on Multiculturalism.
He regretted that impatient with the roadmap of the commission, some citizens erroneously think that the Bilingualism and Multiculturalism Commission was created to waste state resources.
In compliance with one of its missions to monitor the implementation of Cameroon’s two official languages, the Commission resolved to ensure that all public authorities in Cameroon make public speeches both in French and English.
Since its creation on January 23, 2017 that falls in line with Article 1 (3) of the 1996 Constitution,
the Musonge Commission has undertaken maiden visits to higher level State Institutions such as the Senate, National Assembly, the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister’s Office, ‘listen to the people’s mission’ to the South West and North West regions, mission to evaluate the practice of Bilingualism in all ministries, public establishments and state corporations and benchmarking mission to Switzerland.
