Bloody weekend in NW, West regions -March 8 explosion in Bamenda leaves at least 8 injured

The SUN has gathered that at least eight persons were seriously injured on March 8, 2020, following an explosion in Bamenda, North West region. The incident is said to have taken place as North West Governor, Adolph Lele L’Afrique was delivering his address on the celebration of the 35th International Women’s Day in Bamenda, at the Commercial Avenue ceremonial ground.
Reports say the explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device, IED took place about 100 metres opposite the ceremonial ground, which caused commotion at the event ground, with many running helter skelter to make sense of what had happened.
The SUN gathered that at least 8 people were injured, including five soldiers, two Police officers and a civilian. They are said to have suffered serious injuries on their faces, legs and arms and were rushed to the Bamenda Regional Hospital for medical attention. At press time, no deaths had been recorded, according to findings made by The SUN.
Reports suggest that the attack was orchestrated by separatist fighters, who stormed the avenue on a motorbike.
Pictures circulated on Social Media on Sunday showed smoke coming out from Commercial Avenue, where the explosion occurred.

At least five killed in Galim attack, West region

Reports from Galim, situated some 15k from Mbouda in Bamboutos division, west region, has it that a Gendarmerie as well as a Police Post, were attacked in the evening of Saturday, March 7, 2020, leaving at least four security elements dead.
The SUN gathered that about 20 armed men said to be “Ambazonian” fighters staged an attack simultaneously in the posts amidst a blackout, killing two Policemen, two female Gendarmes and a civilian.
Reports say the two Gendarmerie officers killed are Nougue Maeva and Boumla Emelda. Two others are said to have sustained light injuries when they were ambushed by the attackers.
At the police post, reports say two officers were killed, including grade Police Inspector Nsangou and Peace keeping Police officer Djeugap Christian. A civilian detained at the post, Supuyo Salifou is said to have been killed in the attack as well.
Unconfirmed reports have it that the gunmen succeeded to make away with some ammunitions from the posts.
