The terrible accident which also left several others severely injured caused a lot of Chaos in the usually busy and jovial neighborhood of Molyko which is mostly inhabited by university students.
The accident took place around the police station in Molyko, few meters away from the famous Malingo Junction. The military truck equally crushed over five vehicles in the accident.
It is feared that the death toll may rise due to the critical condition of some of the victims, including the gendarmerie officers who were being transported to Douala by the truck.
An eyewitness told The SUN that this is not the first time military trucks have been accused of over speeding.
“It’s just like a routine for them to always be on extreme high speed as though they are running a race. the military truck started its ‘madness’ at Checkpoint, Molyko coming downwards and it was already suspected by many that something terrible was going to happen.”
“In a country where the lives of civilians do not matter, in a country where police use guns to kill innocent citizens, in a country where the security forces do what pleases them, in a country where we know no peace, what do yoy expect? The security forces stand on the road everyday and punish drivers for high speed meanwhile they are the very perpetrators of the act. Security officers who are supposed to protect civilian lives are instead the ones killing them. What a country”, another eyewitness whose only names The Sun got as George vented in anger.
The anger forced some youths to mount barricades on the roads and burn tyres in protest. They were quickly dispersed by the police using teargas.
The accident at Molyko happened barely few months after the Mile 2.9 accident at Ekona that killed over 20 buea denizens
