The Confederation of African football will begin a third inspection mission on Monday to evaluate Cameroon’s preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education Bidoung Mkpatt has revealed.
The Caf team is expected to spend nine days in Cameroon from August 6-14 August where they travel through the country to assess the country’s preparations, Cameroon’s Sports Minister Bidoung Mkpatt told a press conference on Saturday in Yaoundé.
The mission will be conducted in two phases starting with a team that goes straight to work on August 7 to inspect sports and hotel infrastructure on all the cities scheduled to host competition.
The second team of experts from Caf will begin their job on August 12 and will be tasked with holding working sessions with the local organising committee.
Saturday’s press conference came at the end of a week marked by rumours the Confederation of African Football Caf, was ready to withdraw the hosting rights of the competition from Cameroon in favour of Morocco.
Sports and Physical Education Minister Bidoung Mkpatt however brushed such information aside and remained adamant the country is on course with its preparations to host the tournament next year.
Though he failed to tell the press the rate at which works stand on the various construction sites, he however did mention that most contractions are expected to have been finished with the construction of stadia at latest December.
The minister said this deadline has prompted several visits to the construction sites by government officials to speed up the work and hopes Caf will be satisfied with what they see in the coming weeks.
