Cameroon no longer safe for Anglophone activists—Report

Report of a survey disclosed by a group of Human Rights Organisations in Cameroon indicates that the lives of activists of Anglophone extraction is now in danger.

Many of the activists have been arrested and placed under degrading human conditions in maximum security detention facilities across the country. Many have relocated to unknown destination as their family homes and neighbourhoods have been on constant check by security operatives seeking to apprehend them due to perceived anti-government opinions.

On the strength of untold human rights violations perpetuated by security forces, these collectives of Human Rights Organisations are recommending that people of goodwill accord maximum security to any Anglophone activists who is on the run for fear of government persecution.

As tensions in the North West and South West Regions rage unabated, government has embarked on a protracted mission to fish out sympathisers and activists backing the now termed ” Anglophone Crisis”.

The government has already considered them terrorists and numerous trumped up charges have been levelled against them such as propagation of false information, rebellion, revolution, secession, insurrection and non- possession of National Identity card.

Residences of suspected activists whose whereabouts remain a mystery are under police search lights while some have been razed to the ground.

The case of Ntemgwa Constance Ngossong South Cameroon, is very pathetic.

Reports hold that the whereabout of Ntemgwa Constance Ngossong who is currently under security operatives search light has remained cloudy since April 2018.

The Government of Cameroon through judicial authorities has ordered for proceedings in the various military courts against all those arrested within the context of the Anglophone crisis including Ntemgwa Constance Ngossong

According to family sources,Ntemgwa Constance Ngossong was arrested in Kumba, Meme Division South West Region in September 22, 2017, while coming back from work at the sidelines of a peaceful demonstration that took place across Southern Cameroon to call for peace and dialogue in the already deepening crisis that has rocked the North West and South West Region.

This Reporter gathered that the arrested protesters were protesting with peace plants. Some of the protesters were killed and properties destroyed.

They were taken to the Police station and placed under inhumane treatment. Those placed under detention at the police station including Ntemgwa Constance were later whisked to Buea and placed under detention in degrading and inhumane conditions  for about six months before their conditional release on bail. Reports say during their incarceration they had no access to family members and their lawyers.They were equally told that they could only have access to family relation and lawyers only when taken to court. After their release,Ntemgwa Constance Ngossong is reported to have gone underground to a cloudy destination, family sources have opined.

Reports have it that there’s an arrest warrant against Ntemgwa Constance and others. Unconfirmed sources disclosed that  with news of her imminent arrest and subsequent persecutionNtemgwa Constance Ngossong smuggled herself to an unknown destination.

Another pathetic suspected activist is Ashu Lucia Nchindia. Her where-about remains a mystery, according to family sources.It is reported that military stormed Muyuka in the South West Region, late in the night of November 23, 2018, where she resided and broke into houses. They also arrested people, placed them under inhumane treatment and killed others.In an attempt to rape her and daughter, sources say the husband tried to stop the military but was killed, while their house was razed.

Sources close to Mrs, Shu, hinted that before this tragic incident,Ashu Lucia Nchindia, had earlier been brutalised in her shop, her money taken and a man equally shot to death by the military, July 16, 2018.During this military raid in Muyuka, she and others were apprehended and detained for about six weeks and subjected to inhumane treatment.

The government has however, opened up investigations on her and other linking them to the current impasse in cameroon.

Search and arrest warrants is said to be circulating linking to the arrest of Ashu Lucia Nchindia and many others. Reports say, just like other alleged  Anglophone activists, if Ashu Lucia is spotted in Cameroon, she will be arrested and jailed.

It should be recalled that many Anglophones have been apprehended at various police checkpoints, while travelling,and placed incommunicado in draconian inhumane detention conditionafter their phones were searched and discovered therein messages, videos, pictures and images of the killings of Cameroon of Military byAmbazonianDefence Forces, ADF.

Recent statistics by civil society organizations reflect the extent of the damage with horrific numbers. The death toll is on a perpetual rise.  There are also claims that about 300 villages have been burnt down in the two regions and some 500,000 people internally displaced.A good number of English speaking Cameroonians have also assumed refugees status in Nigeria.
