The General Manager of the Cameroon Development Cooperation, CDC, Franklin Ngoni Njie has announced that the company has a guaranteed market in palm oil considering that Cameroon has a deficit of 100,000 tons of palm oil.
The GM made the remarks during an evaluation meeting that grouped top management staff at the Bota SS Club on Friday December 15, 2017.
The GM said the market guarantee extends to other produce of the CDC such as rubber and banana.
“Even if we double our production, we will still have a market. The rubber that Cameroon produces is not even up to 1% of the rubber that is produced in the world. If we double our production from 18,000tons to 36,000tons, we will still have a market”, The GM told management staff.
The GM however acknowledged that the banana sector is a bit challenging in the European due to the current challenge of low production but expressed optimism that if the team puts in enough work, the company will meet up with the challenges.
“I am quite confident that CDC is a good project”, The GM added.
According to Franklin Ngoni Njie, the objective of the evaluation meeting is to look at the road covered and set new challenges for the year ahead.
“We shall not fall back into the old habit of seeing the constraints, which will always be there, and embarrassing them as reasons for not achievement our target”. Franklin Ngoni told reporters.
Quizzed on what management is doing to overcome the challenges caused by frequent electricity cuts, the GM said management has invested hundreds of millions in the provision of generator sets. We have four electricity generating sets installed in the Koke and Mungo parking houses.
“We can’t risk putting the banana under stress because of the absence of electricity” Franklin told reporters
According to Ngala Christopher of the banana sector, to improve on the yield, workers and supervisors should embrace punctuality at work. He also advised that workers should respect the weekly park house cleaning to reduce banana crown rot which accounts to about 50% of loss.
To attain a 121,000tons by 2018, Ngala also advocated for the use of drone technology to help fight the problems of diseases, irrigation and theft.
Dissoh Hell of the rubber sector called for reduction in the cost of production by 12% by 2018.
