A political bureau member of the Cameroon Democratic Union, CDU, party has been freed from captivity three days after. D.A Takougang, the Meme Divisional Coordinator of the party was abducted on Monday, September 10, 2018 by unidentified men around his family residence at the Fiango neighbourhood in Kumba II Sub Division, Meme Division.
Though freed from captivity on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, the news of his abduction was received with shock and consternation by the cross section of the population of Kumba.
All accusing fingers went straight to the amba boys for being behind the abduction of the CDU Meme political heavy weight. Some people argue that the reason for his abduction might be linked to his Bambilike origin. Some schools of thoughts have simply concluded that the abduction of the retired French language teacher who has taught in Kumba for about 3 decades is linked to scores settling. D.A Takougang is known for his money lending business and his abduction must have been caused by one of his many debtors.
Some of his political colleagues criticised his abduction saying that he stands out as the most vocal politician in the Region who see nothing good in the present regime. As a regular panelist of a political debate program dubbed “The White Carpet” over one of the local Radio stations in Kumba, D.A Takougang has always stood his grounds that, the Anglophones have the constitutional rights to complaint due to their marginalization in the socio-economic and political development of their region and has constantly averred that the only way out of the current impasse in the country is through frank and sincere dialogue with federalism being the best form of government.
Following his abduction and his subsequent release, many politicians have called on the separatists fighters to arrest the attitude of kidnappings.
