CPDM campaign teams: The young, the old and even the dead

– In the ruling party old habits hardly die

– For long names of dead militants especially prominent ones continue to appear on official documents talkless of ailing and bedridden personalities

By Noela EBOB BISONG

The campaign teams of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement CPDM party, published last September 3, has attracted the attention of not only militants and loyalists of the party but that of all and sundry, with some questioning some of the parameters considered in the building of the teams. For one thing, not only longtime party bigwigs have again taken positions, but some level of fresh blood has been pumped in. However, what has gotten many talking, is the featuring of names of ailing comrades whose main concern is apparently their health conditions and worse still, the enlistment of some who have already journeyed to the world beyond.

A case in point is the enlisting of Prof Ako Edward Oben, as member of the CPDM South West Regional campaign committee. Prof Ako passed on some weeks ago on August 18 and his mortal remains are currently in the mortuary. The scenario has left many in doubt as to the actual strategy of the party, that is, if they are engaging campaigns both in the physical and spiritual realms, or if rather it’s simply a matter of sticking to old habits and not taking note of the state of militants.

With regards to the subdivisional campaign presidents, after being echoed that Section Presidents should not feature as campaign presidents, the case in Fako appears controversial. The status quo has been maintained in Limbe III and Muyuka, where Section Presidents, Mayor Nseke Luma and Hon. Findi Stanley are campaign presidents respectively, but Buea, Limbe I, Limbe II, Tiko and Idenau have seen new faces.

In Limbe I for instance, Limbe City Mayor, Paul Efome steps into the game, which has been described by some observers as a litmus test for him. He has the huge task of uniting a fragmented Limbe I CPDM to bury all hatchets and rally totally behind their champion, Biya. Should Efome succeed in navigating the slippery CPDM Fako IA to harvest a huge victory, in the highly cosmopolitan Limbe I municipality which has a strong opposition following, then the youth will in no small way make his mark, barely few years after assuming the high office as Limbe City boss.

The CPDM South West Regional campaign team is headed by Peter Mafany Musonge.

-October 12 presidential poll: Billionaires lineup behind Biya

Over a hundred heavyweight Cameroonians, drawn mostly within the parastatal and private settings of the country, have lined up behind the candidacy of incumbent president, Paul Biya of the ruling CPDM party. The crack group, drawn from across the country, is now finetuning strategies to give Biya a heavy win come October 12, within their various spheres of command and influence. With power and billions of FCFA at their disposals, the about 140 big names who will be heading campaign teams on the ground, now stand as a major threat to the country’s opposition, still grappling to build a strong force ahead of d-day. The list below tells of what Biya, 92, has at his arsernal:
