The Minister Delegate at the presidency in charge of defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, has observed that the morale of defence forces deployed to the troubled North West region to put an end to the ongoing socio-political crisis which the region has been plunged into since 2016, remains high.
During his visit to the North West region last Thursday, June 6, 2019, to ascertain the level of progress in relation to the return of peace in the armed-conflict plagued region, Minister Joseph Beti Assomo made a stop at the health unit of the base which hosts some wounded soldiers following gun battles with armed separatist fighters in the North West.

When Minister Beti Assomo met with the injured soldiers, he appreciated them for their selflessness and resoluteness to serve the fatherland, as he comforted and reassured them of government’s care and support. He also reminded the soldiers that such incidents should be considered normal in the life of every veritable soldier. To some of the incapacitated soldiers, the Minister reassured that “We will find positions in the defence forces where you will be able to serve in”.
The Minister was also pleased to observe that the medical facility was well equipped and staffed, ensuring that the soldiers get the best of treatment and care. He equally extended the Head of State’s message of comfort and assurance to the soldiers.
Also, some soldiers hosted at the 6th military health sector of the Second Military Region were equally visited and comforted by Minister Beti Assomo.
General Aghah Robinson hosted the general evaluation meeting with the Minister and his team at the 5th Joint Military Region, prior to the team heading to the head quarters of the North West Gendarmerie Legion to view confiscated separatists’ weaponry.
The SUN gathered that during an in-camera meeting with top defence officers in the region, Minister Beti Assomo, did not fail to reprimand the unprofessional attitude of some defence elements, notably the video incident at Wum. He reminded them that they are forces deployed to maintain peace and order across the nation, and not journalists or commentators.
