Cameroonians have been reassured that security measures have been taken nationwide in order to protect persons and properties on the occasion of activities marking this year’s 45th National Unity Day to be celebrated under the theme “Army and the nation in full synergy for a Cameroon, united in its diversity and devoted to the ideals of peace, stability and prosperity.”
The reassurance was given last May 5, 2017 in Yaoundé by Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo as he chaired a meeting to evaluate security measures put in place to ensure that May 20 witnesses a hitch-free celebration nationwide.

It was explained at the occasion that security is being beefed up due to the continuous presence of the terrorist Boko Haram sect in the Far North Region of the country and the socio-political unrest that is still hunting national unity in the North West and South West Regions with ceaseless calls for boycott of the national day celebration in these parts of the country.
The SUN gathered after the closed-door meeting that Minister Joseph Beti Assomo stressed on the need to guarantee security before, during and after the National Day celebration all over the national territory.
It was disclosed that the meeting is holding on instructions of the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Paul Biya who “holds dearly at heart the ideal of peace and national integration” to make sure that National Day activities come Saturday May 20, 2017 hold in total serenity.
The security evaluation meeting was also attended by Secretary of State in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Jean Baptiste Bokam, Secretary of State in charge of War Victims and Veterans, Koumpa Issa, all Military Region commanders in Cameroon, Brigadier General, Commandant of 1st Sector Multinational Mixed Forces against Boko Haram, Bouba Dobékréo etc.
