In a swift move to enhance road safety for Limbe denizens and others traversing the seaside resort town, the Senior Divisional Officer SDO for Fako Division, Engelbert Viang Mekala has issued a service note prohibiting the circulation of heavy duty vehicles before 10pm henceforth.
According to the service note dated July 11, Mekala observes that “It’s regrettable to note that in the space of just two months since the beginning of this year, the town of Limbe has recorded two fatal accidents caused by heavy duty vehicles which have left several families in mourning.”
To ensure the safety of both people and property, the SDO has prohibited the daytime movement of heavy-duty vehicles transporting cement and other building materials within the town. These vehicles will now only be allowed to access Limbe between 10Pm and 5Am
“In order to ensure road safety for people and properties, the movement of heavy duty vehicles within the day, transporting cement and other building materials is strictly prohibited,” the service note reads.
“I firmly adhere to the strict application of the provisions of this service note”, the Fako boss emphasises.
The latest of the accidents occurred on Sunday, June 30, when a heavy duty vehicle transporting cement collided with another truck, crashing a taxi and bike, leaving at least five persons dead in Mile 3, Limbe.
