Ghost town engulfs Kumba as Ambazonian leaders appear in Court
The ugly face of the ‘ghost town’ syndrome was visible in Kumba, Wednesday June 19, 2019. Reports say alleged separatist fighters made the call for all and sundry to observe a ghost town, reason being that the Ambazonian Leaders, Sisisiku Ayuk Tabe and others were expected to appear at the Yaounde Military court for their trial that has been grading now for close to eight months. To this effect, all the streets in Kumba remained deserted as well as commercial banks, most government offices and private establishments. With Wednesday is the day set aside as the Kumba main market day, The SUN witnessed that some traders who came in late the previous day without knowledge of the ghost town mustered courage and displaced their goods in open corners in the market.
Alleged notorious ‘amba boy’ neutralized in Mbonge
Reports from Nake, a village located along the Kumba Mbonge Highways in Mbonge Sub Division, Meme Division, South West Region say a notorious ‘amba boy’ has been neutralized by the military. The incident took place on Sunday, June 23 2019. Drivers plying that stretch of road disclosed that the ‘amba boy’ was always in military outfit, harassing all the vehicles along the road including passengers, demanding for what he termed “support”. However, on that fateful evening, it’s alleged that the military took cover to watch the ‘amba commander’ display his skills with transport vehicles and passengers for long before allegedly putting an end to his life. This incident comes barely few days after three other alleged separatist fighters were neutralized around Mbonge road Kumba and Ekombe Bonji village respectively.
In a related development, alleged “amba boys’ are reported to have attacked a vehicle around Mabonji and injured one passenger on Tuesday June 18, 2019. The injured father of many children who resides in the Kumba mile 1 neighbourhood, narrated his ordeal to relatives and friends who came to console him. This incident equally comes few days after a passenger vehicle was razed in Malende along the Kumba- Buea road.
Houses razed to the ground in Mbonge
Some houses in Bai Panya, a village in Mbonge sub Division of Meme Division, have been razed to the ground. Conflicting reports hold that the houses were razed following a military crackdown on alleged amba boys. Though one cannot say with exactitude who carried out the inferno, reports from that area say due to the incident, the village that of recent had been returning to normalcy with people coming from the bushes, is now being deserted again, with many people fleeing to the bushes for fear of the unknown.
