The announcement was made last November 15, 2019 in Yaounde by the President of the Electoral Board of ELECAM, Enow Abrams Egbe as he chaired their first session as of right since the convening of the electorate by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya last November 10, 2019.
During this first session, members of the Electoral Board adopted a plan of action to ensure a smooth and successful organisation of the upcoming twin polls in all the 360 council areas of Cameroon.
In his opening statement, Enow Abrams Egbe said the 2020 Municipal and Legislative elections require greatest vigilance from ELECAM so that elections should remain a vector of peace and not a tribune for conflict and crisis.
He called on all stakeholders of the electoral process in Cameroon to encourage women, youths and persons with disabilities to massively take part and probably seek for elective positions at the February 9, 2020 polls.
The Chairman of the Electoral Board reiterated that the elections management body started preparing for these polls long before the elections were convened, in order to learn from past weaknesses and ameliorate the electoral process in the country.
Section 19 sub 2 of the Electoral Code stipulates that the Electoral Board shall meet at least once every fortnight upon the convening of the electorate.
