Enhancing National Youth Policy: Youth table proposals to Minister Mounouna Foutsou

Within the framework of the National Youth Policy and its subsequent plans being revised throughout Cameroon, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou received last October 4,2024 at his cabinet in Yaounde, young people from the sectors of communication, digital Economy and ICT,  Protection of the Environment, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development.

Opening the discussion, Minister Mounouna Foutsou reminded the young people that “the operation is aimed to gather what the target population really thinks, needs and aspires and take these into account in public policies. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education and the Cameroon National Youth Council with the support of other sectoral administrations and traditional authorities.

The Youth Affairs and Civic Education boss added that “the operation is taking place in keeping with Decree N°2012/565 of 28 November 2012 organising MINJEC which prescribes “the design and implementation of sustainable strategies to facilitate the contribution of young Cameroonians to the development of their country” and the “inclusion of youth concerns in the development strategies in the various sectors.”

“It is thanks to the President of the Republic, H.E. Paul Biya that the National Youth Policy is elaborated for the Youth and by the youth. Everybody must pass through this mindset. You will be called upon to identify the stakes and challenges of your sector and to put forward practical proposals to meet these challenges. Therefore, you need to identify the main area for action that will provide new look for the National Youth Policy. If we miss this opportunity, the emergence of Cameroon is put on the balance”, Minister Mounouna Foutsou reiterated to the youths.

The President of the World Youth Foundation, Messi Marina and spokesperson for the environment, biodiversity and sustainable development told reporters that, “we told the Minister that youth are proposing for the promotion of agroindustry, volunteerism, tree planning exercise, citizens participation to the creation of environmental clubs in school and universities milieus etc.”
