Following the abduction of two lawyers, Barristers SHRIBE Wilfred and NDETAN Victor in Buea on January 23 and 24 2019, the Fako Lawyers Association(FAKLA) on Friday January 25 2019 held at emergency meeting in Mutengene, Tiko Sub-division, to denounce the abduction of their colleagues.
The meeting was summoned by the newly elected president, Barrister Enow Benjamin Agbor alongside the secretary of the association, Barrister Nji Valentine Aben.
During the brief emergency meeting, the lawyers noted with regret that the assault perpetrated on lawyers on November 8 2016 has created an enormous negative upshot which has violated the lawyer as a person.
At the close of the meeting and after a tete-a-tete deliberation, the members of FAKLA arrived at some resolutions some of which include the condemnation of the abduction of lawyers and other persons by unidentified gunmen, the call on the abductors to immediately release the abducted lawyers and finally, they also called on the government to promptly initiate an all-inclusive dialogue in view of resolving the ongoing Anglophone crisis, which is the catalyst of the prevalent situation.
At the time of press, FAKLA’s secretary Barrister Nji Valentine Aben told The Sun Newspaper in a brief phone discussion that as at that moment, one of the abducted lawyers in the person of Bar. Shribe Wilfred has been released some minutes after the communiqué from FAKLA was made known to the public.
While it is still to be made known when the other abducted lawyer would be released, it should be noted that in the neighboring town of Douala in the Littoral region of the country, lawyers are been molested, beaten and some even shot by forces of law and order on parts of their body for undertaking a peace protest on the streets.
