Items worth millions have been reduced to ashes following a mysterious fire that consumed the Banga Bakundu Gendarmerie Brigade. The incident took place on the night of May 21 when most Gendarmes had retired home while others were patrolling the road linking Banga Bakundu to Malende in Muyuka Sub-Division.
Reports hold that a young man witness plumes of smoke from the structure while on a night-out with his girlfriend he then met up with one gendarme officer and warned him of the suspected fire. His warning was however allegedly greeted by insults from the Gendarme officer who asked him what he knew about fire.
While many the source of the fire has not yet been established, some eyewitnesses were quick to suggest that the fire might have emanated from a neighbour’s room.
The fire totally razed the wooden structure that housed the Gendarmerie post and over 15 motor bikes that were impounded.
The D.O for Mbonge Sub-Division Simon Sombe, on getting the information rushed to get first hand information about the fire. The D.O who was in a Gendarme Hilux from Mbonge to Banga Bakundu collided with a bike rider and the car turned four times.
He was immediately rushed to the Limbe Regional hospital for medical check-up.
He was later brought to his residence in Mbonge after medical check-up which proved that he did not suffer serious injuries.
