The First deputy Mayor of Idenau Council in the West Coast Subdivision, Fako Division of the South West Region, Emmanuel Penda mokonge was on Tuesday April 9, 2019 freed by his kidnappers after spending one week in captivity.
It should be noted that, Emmanuel Penda was reportedly abducted on the night of Monday April 1, 2019 from his residence in his native Sanje village, some 14 km on the outskirts of Idenau. He was forced into his vehicle and driven to an unknown destination. His vehicle was later found along the Mbomboko road leading to Mbonge Subdivision, Meme division of the South West region.
Reasons for his kidnap are still unclear but villagers remain surprised at the incident given that the border town of Idenau hosts at least three security posts to control movement in and out of the country.
According to reports, The SUN gathered that it is alleged the kidnappers demanded ransom from the deputy Mayor of the Idenau Council, Emmanuel Pendamokonge but no clear circumstances have been released whether a ransom was finally paid.
