Only five people are left in Batibo – Mbah Ndam

The Member of Parliament for Batibo, Joseph Njang Mbah Ndam has said there is virtually no life in Batibo, but for as few as five persons still living in the area.
His words: “I came from Yaoundé with the hope of passing some time in my own village. And so, I got there yesterday and I saw a desert. I saw an unprecedented graveyard. There is nobody in Batibo apart from soldiers. I drove to the hospital because I heard it had incidents.

“It was there I discovered that all the doors of the hospital had been destroyed – there is no single patient, no single doctor, and no nurse. The place is deserted. I came back to my own house, I sat there and there is no single person for me to talk with. So, I came back and slept in Bamenda. And I know that Batibo is no longer a village.
“We will have to start from scratch. Everybody is gone, gone to where I do not know. In fact, so many have gone out of the place into Yaoundé, totally displaced in Bafoussam and even here in Bamenda. There is nobody in Batibo. How do I go and stay alone?
“The whole of Batibo has been displaced. I saw five people in Batibo.
“This government is the most callous and irresponsible government because for my 20 years in parliament, we predicted what is happening with us today. And that we said that this thing will explode some day. It has now exploded and we no longer can handle it.
“Government does not know what to do apart from continuing to use force and deserting the whole place. What can I say? I can only tell the remnants that they should hide their head so that they are not killed. The few that will live will be able to rebuild tomorrow.”
