As the days go by after September 3, full school resumption is still on suspense in Limbe, as school administrators still complain on how timid the academic year has begun.
Mbianda Evelyne, an academic dean of St Anne secondary parish school says “Since the resumption of schools on the 3rd of September 2018, the turnout of school has been very timid with a total enrolment of 117 students on the first day and a progressive increase to about 150 till date. Also, classes have effectively begun with a couple of teachers present. As of now, out of the 8 periods per day, 5 is covered and we hope for improvement in the latest days. She further explained that, based on the fact that students are coming on daily basis, there is a possibility of the school enrolment and effectiveness of classes. The message we have for our parents is that admission is still going on in all the forms, from form one to upper sixth and we encourage both the old and new students to return and enroll in St Anne and acquire a holistic education.”
Ghawi Shomsi, the principal of Saker Baptist College explains that “School this year is very timid unlike the other years; this year students are coming in shifts. Also the fear of school is viral and the total number of students in school as of now is not encouraging. We hope more students will come and more to that, parents are oblige to send their children to school. Parents take their decisions but on our part, we are in school waiting on parents and students to show up”, and further explained that school is for everyone and it is normal that parents send their children to school.
Schools in Limbe started on the 4th of September instead of the 3rd of September 2018 due to the ongoing socio political situation in the country, day one was timid probably triggered by the heavy down pour that morning which deprived children from coming out notwithstanding the doors of the school were wide open, ready to receive students.
