The Chairperson of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Enow Abrams Egbe has underscored that the future of Cameroon is presently in their hands.
He was reminding members of the Electoral Board last July 13, 2018 at the Yaoundé Mont Febe Hotel during their 2nd Ordinary Board Session for 2018 aimed at adopting minutes of the September 29-30, 2017, December 14, 2017 and April 25, 2018 ordinary board sessions.
The minutes were taken down by the Director General of Elections, Erik Essousse.
Members equally used the occasion to examine the joint tour of the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and the Director General of Elections to regions last June 18 to July 11, 2018 where they galvanized ELECAM staffs in the regions ahead of the presidential election and to finalize strategies to better handle polls next October 7, 2018.
He stressed that the challenging task is for them to ensure that Cameroonians freely choose their President during fair and transparent election slated for October 7, 2018.
Talking to reporters, Enow Abrams Egbe said “I first want to assure you that there is serenity at Elections Cameroon. This Board meeting is an extraordinary one which is basically administrative indicating that we are not in any hurry. We are taking our time and respecting our chronology.”
Asked if they waited on incumbent President Biya to announce his candidacy via tweeter before meeting, the Chairperson of the Electoral Board, Enow Abrams Egbe responded that “We did not wait on the President to announce his candidacy before meeting today, it is just a mere coincidence. From the day electors were convened to the polls, a commission for the reception of candidatures was set up immediately at ELECAM.”
To his staff and the population of Cameroon, Enow Abrams Egbe had this to say “in our tour of the regions, we galvanized our troops, motivated them, restored serenity and good morale. The electorate was convened at the time we were with our staff in Ngaoundere and that motivated us a lot. We will give in our very best to make sure that the polls verdict reflect the expression of Cameroonians.”
Quizzed to know if ELECAM is worried over security challenges in the North West and South West regions, the Electoral Board Chair said “few days ago, we were in the NW and SW regions and we can reassure you that though collaborators have uncertainty, we are relying on government’s support to facilitate our task given that we have taken necessary measures to ensure that election holds smoothly in the 58 divisions of the country.”
