The Higher Institute of Management Studies, HIMS in Buea has graduated some 20 trainees who have successfully completed four months of training as administrative assistants and executive secretaries.
According to the Regional Delegate of the National Employment Fund, Jose Ndziga Obama, the training is geared towards helping job seekers have easy access in the job market. The NEF, he noted is the godfather of all job seekers.
He added that finding a job is a full time job on its own and trainees have already been given certain numbers of tools and counseling by the NEF that will enable them use the right path.
To the graduating trainees, the rector of the institution, Professor Cornelius Mbifung Lambi urged them to uphold the motto of their school which is that of assiduity, professionalism and hard work.
Out of the 20 trainees, 3 of them including Halle Marcel Nzike, Fombang Annabel and Tataw Ayuk Emilie were awarded prizes in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, for their outstanding performances in the 6 different areas in which they were categorized.
“I feel so excited haven acquired practical skills in the field of administrative assistant that will help me to gain employment. I wish to extend my sincere thanks to NEF and HIMS for this collaboration and great initiative that they have taken to train Cameroonian youths”, Halle Marcel Nzike told The SUN.
According to Ntam James, director of the School of Expert Capacity Building at HIMS, “The training programme is designed to instill skills and competencies in the students so that they can be able to be of assistance and a liaison between top management executives. The four months training programme was comprised of three months of classroom teaching and one month of industrial attachment where they went into the fields and saw how they could blend theory and practice and be able to appreciate practical professional procedures”, he explained.
The institution also runs short professional course programmes which are all designed to train especially Chartered Accountants.
Present during the ceremony was the outgoing and incoming directors of the National Employment Fund for the South West region, the Rector of HIMS, Academic staff, the graduating trainees as well as loved ones and family members who came to celebrate and rejoice with the trainees.
