The Divisional Delegate of Basic Education for Meme Division, Mukwelle Beatrice has expressed serious disappointments over the boycott of teachers during the launch of the 2019-2020 academic year. She lamented over the little or no interest teachers’ accord to such ceremonies of great importance. The Delegate averred that the turn out did not reflect even a quarter of the population of teachers in her sector.
“I am highly disappointed with the turnout of the teachers; the turnout of the teachers is really not encouraging. It is disheartening to see teachers show little or no interest to events of great magnitude to them”, she said.
The launching ceremony that took place at the Kumba City Council Hall on Thursday, August 22, 2019 under the theme: ‘School, an ideal environment for the acquisition of skills necessary for the view of sustainable development’ saw the presence of the Divisional Officers of Kumba I, II and III Sub-Divisions, Inspectors of Basic Education of the five Sub-Divisions and was presided at by the 1st Assistant Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Joseph Nguime.
Meme Divisional Delegate for Basic Education told teachers that the launching of the new academic year is an opportunity for them, together with their collaborators and stakeholders, to take stock of the activities of last year and to brainstorm on ways to forge ahead.
The gathering equally paved a way for teachers to seek possible ways for schools to effectively open in the division. The need to enhance security on school compounds was equally echoed.
The 1st ASDO on his part appreciated all those who turned out for the launch. He assured them that the state is doing everything to ensure an effective resumption of schools. He said their deliberation and cry for security will be forwarded to his hierarchy for appropriate measures to be taken.
