Limbe broad daylight robbery attack: Police intensify investigation to nab robbers still on the run

Security forces in Limbe have intensified investigations to nab the remaining armed robbers who  burglarised the Standard Cooperative Credit Union, Church Street on broad daylight, Friday May 30, 2025.

The dramatic scene that unfolded at approximately midday saw five armed men attack the bank and forced all present to cooperate at gunpoint. It was in the process of escaping after forcing cash out of the bank, that some met their waterloo.

According to the Manager of Standard Cooperative Credit Union, Nabi Valery Nkwelle, the armed robbers stormed the Credit Union during working hours, minutes after midday.

“They entered the office under the pretext of being customers,” Nkwelle explained. “They took our daily collectors, cashier, and some customers hostage and brought them to my office.”

The bandits tied up the manager, staff, and customers, gagging their mouths and binding their legs. “They told us to cooperate with them or else they’d shoot us,” Nkwelle recounted. “We showed them the save where we keep money.”

The robbers collected money worth over FCFA 2 million and over 15 android phones before fleeing. As they were going down the stairs, the manager managed to untie himself, open the back door of his office, and raise an alarm.

The robbers responded by shooting into the air, which attracted the attention of the security forces.

In the exchange process between the police and the robbers, one of the robbers was killed and two arrested.

Unfortunately, the robbers who escaped included the ones with the money and phones.

At press time the two apprehended suspects were being held at the Limbe Central Police Station for further investigation.
