Limbe City Council launches operation 2,000 light project

Limbe City Council, notables and stakeholders on Friday, March 22, 2024 officially launched ‘Operation 2000 Light Project’ in front of the Limbe Wild Centre.

Speaking during the launching exercise, Limbe City Council, LCC, Mayor Paul Efome L.M Ngale said the project came about after the crisis rocking the North West and South West Regions and which led to the vandalization of a lot of street lights.

He explained that the Limbe City Council Board deliberated and came out according to the vision he presented to the population, to bring back street lights in town.

“The lighting system is a small set of stakeholders and notables who came together to contribute street lights and finance so that we realize this project,”

“The project is going to help in the beautification of the town in the night and for security.” Paul Efome said.

He appreciated the stakeholders and notables who made the vision a reality. Paul Efome explained that they are starting with 200 lamps which comprises of sodom and mercury.

“The sodom will be on tarred roads and mercury on un-tarred roads. In the days ahead, Limbe will light up again and better”,

“I’m calling on other stakeholders who are interested to join the project. The project is real and will yield good results.” Paul Efome said.

He, however, revealed that more stakeholders are interested in the vision. He explained that they are looking for the possibility of a solar farm in Limbe to help the energy situation to light up the street lights and other facilities of the town.

On his part, the Secretary General of LCC, Kinge Thompson Molongo explained that anyone who will be caught stealing, vandalizing or misusing the lamps will be punished according to the provisions of the municipal laws. He said anyone caught with the light will pay 200 lights.

Sampson Molongo and the Chief of Mokunda Edward Ngale both stakeholders said they all bought the vision of the LCC Mayor to see that the town is lighted up again as it has been the cry of everyone in town. They all pledged their total support for the project.

Limbe I Mayor, MbwayeEposi Florence urged the population to protect the street lights while calling on others to join the project to light up the municipality again. She expressed joy at seeing the project being realized and appreciated the LCC Mayor and stakeholders for joining hands on deck for the project.

The Second Deputy Limbe City Mayor, Kountchou Emmanuel congratulated the stakeholders who accepted and joined the LCC Mayor’s vision to develop the town. He urged others to join the project to make Limbe light up again.
