Some 49 workers of Energy of Cameroon S.A. ENEO Cameroon, have been decorated with medals in recognition of their esteemed services offered Cameroonians over the years. The Minister of Labour and Social Security, Gregoire Owona was in Limbe on Thursday, December 5, 2024, to reward the meritorious 49, who were among 1047 workers recognised by ENEO Management nationwide.
While chairing the event, Minister Gregoire Owona said the initiative testifies ENEO General Manager’s decision to consolidate the peaceful well-being of workers and the productivity of the company. He appreciated all endeavours taken to improve working conditions particularly in health and safety. “It is pivotal that the work environment be conducive to preserve the moral integrity of those who contribute to the achievement of results”, the Minister said.
“Put in more effort to support the important industrialisation programme of H.E. President Paul Biya…increase your production capacity, improve access to energy, continue investing in the development of renewal energy and the modernisation of infrastructure”, he told management.
To the recipients, Minister Owona said, “Dear recipients, the award that will be conferred to you on behalf of the president of the Republic, symbolises the recognition of the entire nation. They are the result of professional merit and seniority. You are now models worthy to be followed by your younger colleagues who I invite to show more effort and self sacrifice at work in order to become distinguished as well.”
Preceding the Minister, the General Manager of ENEO Cameroon, Amine Homman said the event was in acknowledgement and loyalty of their workers. “I extend my most sincere congratulations to you. Your medals are not merely a symbol of your seniority but represent your commitment to our company’s values and goals…you have made significant contributions to the growth and stability of our organisation… we trust this recognition will serve as an incentive for you to persist in this endeavour and to inspire your colleagues”, the GM said.
Among the 49 medals was 11 gold, received firstly by ENEO Regional Manager for South West and Moungo, Marie Charlie Bassega, who has put in some 30 years in service at the company.
At the start of events marking the ceremony, an address was delivered by the workers’ representative, Yannick Tonji of ENEO Nkongsamba Unit, who among other things, urged management to improve working conditions for employees.
At the close of the ceremony, a happy Agbor Ferdinand Eyong of the Connections department, having been decorated with a gold medal, reacted to the press that, “I will go on retirement but this medal will keep me in remembrance of my services at ENEO.”
