The murderers of a 26-year-old electrician, Desire Ndjebayi Bikelel, who worked with Afrik Rchafaudage, have been arrested and are currently being detained at the Buea Central Prison.
The five murderers were arrested recently after an intense investigation led by elements of the gendarmerie brigade in the Limbe II subdivision, who succeeded to tract one of the killers, Bertrand Nna.
Speaking to the press following the arrest, Brigade Commander, Assoumou Narcisse Ludovic Steve on Wednesday, June 26, at his Mokundage office in the Limbe II municipality explained that the young Ndjebayi was murdered on the night of April 12 by a gang of five, in the bushes within the vicinity of a hotel in Ngeme. The gang of five is made up of Bertrand Nna (24 years old), Ronald Agengon (24), Allen Ngin (22), Smith Ngwa (29), and Joel Echmabi (20).
Reports say the gang had set out that fateful night to burgle a certain residence within the backyards of the hotel. While their mission was unsuccessful, as they retreated, they noticed that someone was busy browsing on his phone on the upper floor of one uncompleted three-storey-building located opposite the residence they tried to rob.
The SUN learnt that, Ndjebayi often came around that building to use the free internet waves emanating from the said hotel. Suspecting that Ndjebayi might have seen them and will certainly raise an alarm, the gang of five immediately set out to eliminate him.
They quickly accessed the uncompleted building, climbed the stairs and got hold of Ndjebayi. They grabbed him and pulled him off to the bushes behind the building, banded his mouth and blindfolded him.
While some of the gang members argued that he should not be killed, two others found it hard to let go. He was knifed to death and his corpse discovered only after three days.
The Brigade commander said it was thanks to the fact that one of the thieves, Bertrand Nna took away Ndjebayi’s phone and was still using it, that they succeeded to get hold of him and then the rest of the gang members.
On Wednesday June 26, the five were taken out of the cell and transferred to the scene of their ungodly act, where they reenacted the gruesome incident.
