Political parties who will take part in the February twin elections have raised concerns about the security of militants or voters who have to cover long distances to vote at polling centers located far away from their homes amidst separatist threats. They echoed their worries last January 28, 2020, during a meeting with the division’s administration at the Limbe City Council Hall Down Beach.
In response however, Fako Senior Divisional Officer SDO, Engamba Emmanuel Ledoux has assured all the political parties and electorate that all necessary measures have been taken to guarantee security throughout the Division before, during and after the elections.
Opening the meeting, Fako SDO urged stakeholders to ensure that everything is in order for the election to be free, fair and void of any incident across the Division.
Divisional Officers from all the seven subdivisions in Fako admitted that security is a major challenge for the election but assured that measures have been taken at their level for the protection of the population.
The ELECAM Fako Divisional head, Stephen Nangoh said they have ended with the training of chairpersons for polling stations, adding that they are now at the level of arranging materials for the polls. Nangoh went further to say that ELECAM is working hard to ensure that the elections are fair and transparent.
However, the Social Democratic Front SDF Limbe list head, Moki Monono accused the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement CPDM of using money to bribe polling agents during elections. He vowed that they have called on the authorities concern to arrest anyone trying to corrupt the SDF agents this time around in the division.
It should be noted that the meeting brought together all the Divisional Officers in Fako, Mayors, government delegate to the Limbe City Council, head of defense and security forces, ELECAM divisional and branch heads, candidates for the legislative and municipal elections in all councils in Fako among others.
