Wang Metuge, a Marxist Theorist and Lecturer at the University of Buea is no more.
The sagely lecturer of Political Science, Political Economy, Political Thought and Legal Theory travelled to the world beyond in the wee hours of Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Buea Regional Hospital.
Fondly called “Pa Wang” by his colleagues and students, the political scientist served the educational community in several capacities.
After earning a couple of postgraduate degrees abroad, Pa Wang taught in many universities in West Africa including the federal University of Benin where he headed the Department of Political Science and Public Administration.
Upon his return to the country, he joined the University of Buea. He became Head of the Department of History before moving to head the Department of Political Science.
His death was received with shock by members of the university community in Buea. At his Federal Quarters home in Buea, mourners have been trooping in to console his family.
Among those devastated by the demise of Pa Wang are Professor Victor Julius Ngoh and Barrister Ikomi Ngongi. Both men could hardly control their tears given that they were about the last to visit Pa Wang on his sick bed at the Buea Regional Hospital.
Tributes to Pa Wang
Munjah Vitalis: “Professor Wang Metuge you promised to mould me to the end of my academic journey. You were my strength and acted like a push when I felt I like giving up. When the whole place became chaotic, you were still standing there like a saint. I would have wished you live forever but I am not God. Rest in peace my mentor till we meet again.”
Charles Ndi Chia: “My moyo, my chum, my elder brother, good people like you don’t die; they mutate…”
Moki Charles Linonge: “Oh my God!!! What an academic luminary we have lost. Some of us can’t recount his impact in our lives here, but promise to remain his legacy. You go with no regrets because you impacted the world positively. Rest in peace Master Wang…God is watching.”
Lilian Ndangam: “Oh my God! An Iroko tree has fallen. Wey wey wey! I cannot scream loud enough. I took one course at the university with this man. It made an immense difference to my thinking and understanding of African affairs. Rest in peace Prof. Thank you for your service.”
Molua Patrick: “His pedigree liveth after him in us his academic creatures. Adieu Prof.”
Manyo Bernard Bsong: “An academician of unrivalled quality. Wang wrote some of the best pages of Political Science at the University of Buea. May he rest in peace.”
Senator Mbella Moki Charles: “A great mind is gone. Rest in peace.”
Ambe Kingsley: “I saw him just once, but his thinking cap was so exceptional. His political brilliance was so marvellous. I think he was the only political school for Cameroonian politicians. Sir you were so decent, honest, kind, humble, reputable and loyal. You were not a blind and weak intellectual. As a fit and proper lecturer without pretentious gimmicks, truth was your way. Sir may you have eternal rest. We shall meet again.”
Pa Wang will be laid to rest at his birth place, Nkack-Nninong in Bangem sub-division on March 3, 2018.
