Meme lawyers form task force to defend 38 Anglophones arrested October 1

The esplanade of the Meme High Court in Kumba, Thursday, November 9, 2017 was full to capacity by family members of some Anglophones who were arrested on the October 1st, 2017 following demonstrations.
The October 1 demonstrations which turned bloody were organized by some Anglophones in the Diaspora to celebrate what they termed the ‘Independence’ of Southern Cameroon.
The family members came to see their relatives for the very first time, appearing in court, after about six weeks of pretrial detention at the Kumba Principal Prison.
The 38 arrested youths, including minors and a female student, had been on Administrative detention by the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Meme Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlin.
The SUN gathered that they are charged for having violated the decision of the Governor of the South West Region prohibiting all public gathering and manifestation as from the September 29 to October 2, 2017.
They shall in the days ahead begin defending themselves before the Examining Magistrates of the Meme High Court and Court of First Instance Kumba. Meanwhile, a Task Force has been created by the Meme Lawyers Association, in collaboration with the Human Rights Commission of the Cameroon Bar Association, headed by Barrister Atoh Walter Tchemi, including Barristers Asu Alfred, Ekokule Raymond, Tabi EvaristusTabi, Chibili Christian Jnr, Advocates-In- Training, Alemanji Elvis, Gerad Nsa, Ndohminang Dickson Fointama, Dinga Briget, and Agha Chris to offer free services to the detainees.
