The Leader of the telecom sector in Cameroon, MTN has again made news headlines after successfully being evaluated to have won the 11th edition of the 21 Days of Yello Care program in the West and Central African regions.
According to the MTN Group that accesses the benevolent projects, the first prize award is in recognition of the quality of the projects initiated and deployed by the MTN volunteers of Cameroon from the 1st to 21st June 2017 during which MTN Cameroon employees constructed and equipped a science laboratory at Government Bilingual High School Bobongo Petit-Paris Douala. It should be noted that the school is also known to have had the best results in the recent classification reports made by the Baccalaureat Board in 2016.
Other projects realized during this period with the help of friends of MTN including artists, associations, media professionals were the digitalization of courses of the University of Buea, equipping several school libraries across the nation, and the digitalization of educative content for the YelloBook.cm Library.
According to MTN officials the 21 Days of Yello Care is a voluntary and charity program initiated by the MTN Group which annually engages its employees to carry out social activities for 21 days for the welfare of communities across the globe wherein the MTN Group subsidiaries are operational.
This is the fourth time Cameroon has distinguished itself. The first prizes were once won last in 2012, 2013 and 2015. After receiving the good news the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon Madam Philisiwe Sibiya declared, “These initiatives have a direct impact on more than 25,000 students and teachers. The distinction received from the MTN Group confirms the quality of our projects, but especially calls on us to continue mobilizing for those in need of us.”
