The back-to-school campaign for an effective resumption of classes this 2019/2020 school year might suffer a setback in Ndian Division of the South West Region. Reports say teachers of the basic education sector in the Division saw themselves manhandled by alleged separatist fighters at the weekend, while on their way to take part in the launching of the 2019 /2020 academic year in Mundemba, chief town of Ndian Division, which was scheduled for Tuesday, August 27, 2019.
The teachers, including some Inspectors of Basic Education in the Division who were travelling to Mundemba by sea saw themselves under the captivity of the separatist fighters around the Bulu beach in Mundemba. About 23 other teachers, reports say who were travelling to Mundemba through Idenau were kidnapped and only released in the early hours of Monday, August 26, 2019 after alleged inhumane treatment.
The teachers are said to be currently receiving medical attention at a Mundemba health facility. Reports indicate that many teachers in Ndian Division have been going through constant harassments from “Amba boys” ever since schools were shut down in many areas of the division. Ndian Division it should be recalled has nine Sub divisions and about 50 Nursery and primary schools.
