Renowned Cameroonian Boxer, Mbeng Jacob Makia, better known in the ring as Super Makia is no more. The all-time best African Champion died Thursday, August 1, at the Yaounde Military Hospital after a brief illness, the Cameroon Wrestling Federation has announced. In his entire career as a boxer, the 61 year-old stepped into the ring 87 times, registering 86 victories and a draw.
Super Makia started his wrestling career and became renowned in 1986, when he was crowned African wrestling champion of the year, a title he bore and jealousy kept for over 30 years.
Some of his most intriguing bouts were against “Big Bulu,” “Ngamazine,” and “Times Manodor.” One of his most ultimate battles was in Yaounde against four-time world champion, Austrian born Chris “Bambi Killer” Reaber, where Makia emerged victorious.
The Yaounde Sport Complex clash which took place in 2014 marked the end of his 28 year-long career. He would later become a popular spiritual healer in Yaounde, a movie actor and a rap singer.
Super Makia was born in Kumba, Meme Division of Cameroon’s South West region.
