All set for National Day celebration in Meme despite menace of ghost town

All has been put in place in Meme Division for a hitch free celebration of the 45th Edition of Cameroon’s National Unity Day to be celebrated on Saturday May 20th, 2017 under the theme “Army and the Nation in full synergy for a Cameroon, united in its diversity and devoted to the ideals of Peace, Stability and Prosperity”.
In Kumba, Chief town of Meme Division where celebrations will be chaired by the Senior Divisional Officer, Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlin, the Kumba City   council grandstand has been given a facelift while the military, police, national gendarmerie, Army Rescue unit and the Penitentiary corps have regimented their marching through intensive rehersals. Cleanup campaigns have multiplied with Victor Nkele Ngoh as Government Delegate personally supervising.
However this year’s celebration might face some hitches following repeated calls for ghost town on that day by unidentified individuals. The entire population of Kumba got up on Tuesday May 16, 2017 to discover that some areas where littered with tracks carrying messages calling for ghost town on Saturday, May 20.
The tracks were captioned “Operation No 20th May” and ended with a warning… ‘Our cameras everywhere …. stay at home for the safety of your life, children and property”. However, despite all these threats, The SUN was reliable informed that security measures have been put in place to ensure that the celebrations go hitch free.

 

Political parties indicate interest.

The National Day celebration has been noted for the day wherein political parties manifest their strength. With the announced boycott of the SDF of Ni John Fru Ndi , and the CPP  of Kah Wahala, the ruling CPDM has indicated that their turnout this year will be massive taking into consideration the fact that Cameroon is on  the eve of very decisive elections .
Talking to the Section President for the CPDM Meme 1A, Tabot Lawson Bakia, he said all measures have been taken to ensure that militants of his section attend in their numbers to manifest the strength of the party in the municipality. The Section President of the CPDM Meme 1C, Dr Mukwelle Isaac Nguba, who just rounded up his contact tour to all the sub sections accompanied by the WCPDM and YCPDM section presidents hinted that his section is set to storm the Kumba 20th May Boulevard on National Day to celebrate the day in pomp and fanfare.
The section President for Meme II in Mbonge, Senator Otte Andrew Mofa has set up various commissions to ensure that all militants answer present at the Mbonge grand Stand. On his part the Secretary General of the People’s Action Party, PAP, Ekambi Alphonse Mukwelle brandished to THE SUN an invitation endorsed by the Meme SDO, to answer and participate actively in the celebration. He hinted he will mobilize militants of the party for the day’s event.
It should be noted that PAP of Ekambi Alphonse and that of Ayah Paul are different as the latter had distanced himself from this faction.
