The night of Saturday February 2, 2019 will go down in history as one of the longest to witness sporadic gun shots in Kumba, chief town of Meme Division, South West Region of Cameroon ever since the current Anglophone impasse rocking the North West and South West Region erupted and later on escalated into confrontations between Separatists Fighters and Cameroon Defence Forces.
Denizens of Mile 1 Kumba Mbonge road, Kake and Ekombe villages in Mbonge Sub Division are living testimony of the fact that there were nonstop sporadic gun shots in these localities from 2am to 4 am breaking Sunday February 3, 2019.
Reports hold that though no one could immediately identify the various sounds of the gun there is every indication that the sounds were that of the Cameroon military.
An inhabitant of mile 1 around the Kumba- Mbonge road park told this Reporter that he only heard the sound of what he could identify as that of an alleged den gun at about 2 am and by 2:15 am he started hearing heavy gun shots from military that caused him to take the floor of his room as his bed.
Conflicting reports indicate that, the sporadic gun shots was as a results of rumours that circulated in Kumba that the Separatists fighters will storm the town to make sure the two weeks lockdown to run from Monday February 4 -14, 2019 as announced by Restoration forces is fully respected.
Kumba main market full to capacity
In another development the Kumba Main Market, this Saturday February 2, 2019 was full to capacity as the population came out en masse to buy food items.
The market today a housewife told this Reporter is jam-packed like this with various food items because people for fear of the unknown have come to purchase food to stock at their various home following conflicting reports about a likely two weeks lockdown in the entire region as announced by Restoration Forces.
Another woman who was in the market to buy food and other items disclosed that she is taken aback by the sudden jam-packed market. She opined that, this is the first time the market is jam-packed like this with various food and other items ever since the Anglophone Crisis started in 2016 characterised with frequent ghost towns. She said the market is full because of the announced two weeks lockdown by Separatists Fighters reason why people have come to buy and stock their households with enough food.
She complained that thought the traders have taken advantage of situation to hike prices of just all the food items she has no other choice than to buy.
