The SUN has gathered that a boy in his late 20s almost lost his life around the Ndongo quarter in Buea, on Thursday May 14, 2020.
According to reports, he got the beating of his life by young boys in the neighbourhood, after they suspected him of being a thief because he was seen with a deep wound at the back of his palm and at his right side.
The SUN learnt that, one of the most active vigilante boys in the quarter suspected the said boy must have had the wound from another theft operation. He immediately alerted other boys in the quarter when the suspected thief tried to run. This raised more suspicion
However, his life was spared despite agitation from onlookers to kill or wound him seriously.
According to a shop owner in the quarter, she has been visited by many of such who claim to be prisoners or ‘Amba’, demanding for her goods for free. She was very happy about the incident, saying it will serve as an example to others coming to her store to beg forcefully.
Reports say in the past six months, more than 10 cases of theft have been recorded in the area, though the Ndongo quarter is only a few meters behind a police station.
