It was a tensed atmosphere at the Tiko Council chambers during the maiden session to elect the mayor and deputies. The heated session which lasted for over an hour finally saw Mesoso Peter Ikome emerge winner with 25 councillors out of 41 in his favour as opposed to 16 councillors for Elame Victor.
The session was chaired by the Senior Divisional Officer of Fako, Emmanuel Engamba Ledoux, last February 25 2020.
In a press chat shortly after being elected mayor, Chief Mesoso said “The priorities I have for Tiko municipality, I conceived them since 2013 but since I could not succeed in getting into the seat, I had to give myself a rest, gather momentum to come on for 2020. My priorities are not farfetched; first problem we have here in Tiko municipality is that of water crisis, secondly we have inaccessible roads especially in the quarters, making it difficult for taxi’s to circulate. We also have to make Tiko look like a city, Tiko for years has been the same and we must bring change; that is why we are the game changers.”
He also explained that “I think and know that the Tiko municipality is going to experience a great change. There is no need for camps, people being disgruntled is normal but that would not stop us from working as a team. I cannot do the work alone; I need the deputies and the entire councillors so that together we can build up the Tiko municipality.”
The four deputies for the council are: Andrew Engange, Ali Isa, Mukwele Elvina epse Ngomba and Ikome Valery Ndisa in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions respectively.
Quizzed on how he was going to tackle being a mayor and a traditional ruler, Mayor Mesoso Peter said his new position will in no way hinder his traditional responsibilities. He expressed his readiness to work 100% in each domain and serve perfectly well in whatever capacity.
