VIIMMA 2024: Stakeholders give high score over integrity, professionalism

The 7th edition of the Victoria International Media Merit Awards (VIIMMA) has received high recognition for integrity and professionalism. The event took place last August 16 in Douala, bringing together media professionals, laureates, VIIMMA partners and friends.

Addressing the guests, Solomon Agborem, National President of Cameroon Association of Media Professionals (CAMP) thanked the administration for their collaboration and effective presence at the august event. He stated that it was the first time for the event to be held out of the South West region and said the aim was to expand its reach.

Taking the rostrum, the Inspector General of Services at the Littoral Governor’s office, Mboke Naz, who was personal representative of the governor of the Littoral region, hailed the organisers of VIIMMA for haven selected the Littoral region to host the 7th edition of the award. She took a commitment to report back to her boss all that took place in the course of the event.

Sir Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle came in with a strong word of encouragement to VIIMMA 2024 organising Committee. He rated them as a team of high moral integrity. Sir Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle, also used the opportunity to call on winners of the award to join in the fight against corruption that has brought the nation to its knees while shaming those who have decided to govern with impunity.

Kiven Fonyuy, Chairperson of the Media Award Committee on his part, underscored that due to the rigorous nature of the committee, the task was not an easy ride . “VIIMMA, I will say is the most credible media award ceremony that we have in Cameroon at the moment. Not because it outplays other awards but because of the rigorous selection procedure we’ve put in place to ensure that the best and only the best are awarded”, he stressed.

Some of this year’s winners included Lateu Douanla Synthia who won the Elah Geoffrey Prize for Best Print Reporter, Boris Esono who won the Health Reporter of the year, Alphonse Abongwa won the Ephraim Banda Ghogomo Investigative Journalist of the year, Barka Derrick received the Agbor Balla Best Humanitarian and Human Rights reporter of the year, Chanceline Nanze won the Best Female Journalist of the year to name but these.

The VIIMMA wasn’t only limited to media professionals but also honorary awards were given to some personalities, public, private and cooperate institutions whom in one way or the other had impacted the society.
