The Governor of the South West region, Bernard Okalia Bilai has warned state workers in the region through their regional heads to tighten their seat belts as regard to their consistency in office especially on Mondays which many have set aside as a resting day at their homes. He cautioned them to work on Mondays or be ready to face the consequences. It was during a meeting at his conference room on Tuesday January 29 2019 where the governor passed on his warning message.
With a gloomy face, the South west Governor noted that enough is enough. He said enough of the laxity perpetrated by civil servants all in the name of a so-called ghost Monday. He reiterated that such nonchalant attitude will no longer be tolerated.
The Governor promised severe punishments/sanctions for any civil servant who does not report present on Mondays to their duty post. Still being plaintive on the inconsistency of the civil servants in office, the governor said just few offices are open on Mondays and this is very detrimental to the region. While advising the civil servants through their regional heads to be courageous and drive away any form of fear from the unknown, the governor also told them to set the pace so that others can follow.
As concerns the security of the workers, the governor as always assured the regional heads of maximum security from the security forces/ government. He said the administration in collaboration with the Mayor of the Buea Council, Ekema Patrick Esunge have been working and are still doing everything to ensure that transport and business sectors are operational again.
It is evident that, the governor in the days ahead must have put in place control teams at the different regional delegations to check, evaluate and take note of those who would be present in the office in the coming weeks as well as those who choose to answer the ghost town call.
The closed-door meeting which lasted for about two hours witnessed the Presence of regional delegates, security officials, D.O, S.D.O, 3rd deputy Mayor Buea council etc
It should be noted that this among other security meetings are seldom conveyed by the governor all in a bid to ensure that normalcy, peace, calm and tranquility return to the city of excellence.
