With the 2025 presidential election gradually narrowing down to d-day, to the dismay of some, anxiety of others and yet excitement of others, some opposition political parties in Cameroon appear to be gaining steam to stage a strong fight come election day.

The city of Douala, economic capital of Cameroon was on Sunday, June 8, plunged into an atmosphere of frenzy, following the arrival of Prof. Maurice Kamto, leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party, better known in french as MRC. Reports say Kamto arrived Cameroon on the night of Saturday, June 7 and had programmed a meeting with his supporters at their party head quarters in Grand Moulin, before heading for a similar meeting in Yaoundé. However, for several hours, the politician appeared to have been held back and his movement restricted, causing him to air a social media video denouncing the action of administrators in Littoral region. While supposedly being held back, militants, supporters and sympathisers of the MRC flooded the party’s base in Grand Moulin, in high anticipation to receive their champion, whom they hold in high honour. Kamto gained much popularity and admiration from his party loyalists following the mega rally he held in Paris, France recently, in line with the October 2025 presidential election.

Before his return to Cameroon after the rally, certain measures taken by the administration in Littoral appeared to have been intentional to prevent the political star from showcasing his political weight on home soil, notably the ban on the circulation of motorbikes around certain areas in Douala. With Kamto having a huge following within the motorbike sector, the move by the administration was judged as a calculated step to foil any programmed gathering by the MRC.
At press time, another video was in circulation of supposed MRC supporters flooding a vehicle along the streets of Douala, believed to be that transporting Maurice Kamto.

-Osih barnstorms Far North, North regions with “ambitious, realistic” message
In an outlined and seemingly well programmed gesture, the Social Democratic Front SDF party, has been touring the four angles of Cameroon, selling its vision of the country, described as ambitious and realistic in some quarters. Party Chairman, Hon. Joshua Osih, after days in the West and North West Regions, has been in the Far North and North Regions, meeting with militants and sympathisers. In localities like Yagoua, Gobo, Sanguere etc, the Osih delegation has preached the SDF’s intention, ability and capacity to amongst other things restore the dignity of the grand North within one year after taking office, one mandate to transform Cameroon’s economy and society, offer free identity cards etc. The party is pushing for massive voter registration, which it maintains is gateway to oust the reign of the party in power.

Hon. Osih also held sessions with women, who welcomed the leader with songs, cheers, ululations and salutations.
The ongoing steam from the opposition parties, some hold, is causing a wave of panic to the regime in power, orchestrated in bans on rallies, movement in some programmed venues.
