Nganou Djoumessi launches works to double Olembe-Obala Interchange road section

The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi has officially launched works to double the northern entrance to the city of Yaounde at Olembe-Obala Interchange road section by 2×2 lanes. He launched the works at Meyos in the Centre region last July 11, 2024 in the presence of Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Public Contracts, Ibrahim Talba Malla, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Public Works in charge of Roads, Armand Ndjodom among others.

Speaking at the launch, the Public Works boss said the doubling of the Olembe-Obala section of 22km of the National Road N°1, will be constructed by the company, Arab Contractors Cameroon Ltd to the tune of FCFA 25. 594. 556. 112 under the technical control of INTEGC/SINGE/GE for services evaluated at FCFA 1.338.759.823 for a period of 30 months. The works which began effectively last May 2024 are expected to be completed by November 2, 2026.

He said the project will enable government to attain its objectives as assigned in the National Development Strategy as well as the development of trade exchange between Cameroon and its neighbouring countries. More specifically, the project aims to ameliorate traceability conditions on the Yaounde-Enugu road while easing circulation in order to resolve the problem of traffic jam.

Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi explained at the occasion that “the project is co-financed by the government of Cameroon and the Development Bank of the Central African States, thanks to savings made in the rigorous management of the Transport Sector Support Project-1 (development of the Batchenga-Ntui-Yoko-Lena-Tibati-Ngatt road with a loan agreement of FCFA 20.816.130.862) on the one hand, and the Transit Facilitation Project on the Ketta-Djoum Corridor Phase II with a loan agreement of FCFA 3.153.619.267 on the other hand, which has enabled resources to be freed up both in awarding contracts and optimizing the technical choices.”

The Minister concluded by expressing gratitude on behalf of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, Head of Government, to the President of the Development Bank of Central African States for accompanying Cameroon in this important project.
