Alleged separatists slay three police officers in Buea

Three elements of the Police force in Buea have been shot dead by suspected separatist fighters. According to reports, the incident occurred at about 10:00pm on the night of Saturday, August 24, 2024. The police men were shot dead as they were on guard duty at a makeshift security post close to the Bwitingi market, on the road leading to Muea market.

The SUN learnt the slain soldiers have been identified as Second Grade Police Constable Laoumanga from Second District Police Station, Second Grade Police Constable Tabe from Third District and First Grade Police Constable Beng from Central Police Station.

Reports say after the act, a neighbour at the Bwitingi New Lay out who saw them from his house window overheard them planning to move to Ikata.

“There is a road from Bwitingi that leads through the bushes, behind Lysoka Maumu, behind Owe in Muyuka right to Ikata and Bafia in Muyuka… they must probably came on bikes and hid themselves somewhere further inside”, An inhabitant in Muea said.

The SUN learnt that at the time of the act, electricity had gone off. Reports suggest that the attackers hid in the dark, and went really close to the officers who were seated in front of the post which is a container.
