The Anglophone General Conference has been postponed to November 21-22, 2018 by organisers of the event which seeks to find a solution to the crisis, turned war, rocking the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.
Initially scheduled for August 29-30, the organisers decided to postpone the conference to give themselves enough time to prepare. The decision was arrived at after a meeting Wednesday, August 8 in Douala.
“The convenors (of the Anglophone General Conference) reviewed the various tasks to be accomplished in preparation for the conference and to ensure that this important gathering of the people of the South West and North West regions achieves its noble objectives,” Christian Cardinal Tumi, main organiser of the event said in a statement.
“They concluded that more time would be needed to prepare for the conference. They therefore decided to postpone the holding of the Anglophone General Conference in Buea initially scheduled for 29-30 August to 21-22 November,” +Tumi added.
Since the announcement of the Anglophone General Conference, the idea has met fierce resistance from several quarters with the Mayor of Buea Patrick Ekema Esunge calling on the government to ban the event from holding in Buea.
However, the organisers expressed deep satisfaction that the government “welcomed the initiative while expressing reservations on some requests that were addressed to it.”
The organisers have reaffirmed their determination to pursue the initiative aimed at finding a lasting solution to the crisis while calling on all to pray daily for the success of the conference and a return to peace and normalcy in our country – Cameroon.
