The congregational chairperson of Presbyterian Church Bonadikombo, Mile 4, Limbe, who also serves as the Mayor of Limbe I Council, Mbwaye Eposi Florence, has donated didactic materials to over 100 schoolchildren. The donation exercise took place on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the church. The gesture is part of her yearly donation to widows’ children and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The donation, which includes books, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and more, was handed to the schoolchildren with the hope that it will empower them as the new school year unfolds.

Quizzed about the timely gesture, Mayor Mbwaye Eposi explained that, as a mother in Limbe I municipality, she has a passion for children. “I’m an educator and know the importance of education,” she said, quoting Nelson Mandela: “The strongest weapon for change is to go to school”, she said.

The Congregational Chair said, “I pray to do better next year, especially with the availability of means. Trust me, with God Almighty, I shall put smiles on more faces in the next edition”, she said.

Mbwaye Eposi urged the schoolchildren to take their studies seriously by devoting their time and avoiding distractions. Parents of the beneficiaries thanked her for the back-to-school materials, citing the donation as timely amid economic hardships.

It should be noted that this is not Mayor Mbwaye Eposi’s first initiative to promote education in Limbe I municipality since the start of the 2025/2026 academic year. Earlier, she donated didactic materials to over 200 schoolchildren in Quarter 21, Bonadikombo Mile 4, and facilitated the payment of two months’ salary arrears to Limbe I Council staff to enable them to send their children to school.

An indigenous association in Limbe, known as Litimbiseh La Vho’oo, recently donated scholarship award to over 14 schoolchildren worth FCFA 30,000 each, alongside didactic materials comprising exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers etc, to facilitate the 2025/2026 back-to-school period.

Speaking during the second edition of the scholarship event at Wovia Community Hall, the president of Litimbiseh La Vho’oo, Lifaka Njoke Esike Mathias expressed gratitude to the Chief of Wovia village,

HRM Dikanjo Malumbe George, for accepting to host the event in his Chiefdom. He also appreciated other Chiefs who who have already bought the idea.

He explained that Litimbiseh La Vho’o is an indigenous association for the indigenous people of all the three Sub Divisions making up Limbe, and to a broader extent, all Fako indigenes who have agreed with their ideals and vision of making Limbe regain its identity as a place with its own indigenous values despite its very high cosmopolitan nature presently.

“We are an apolitical association with focus to help in the development of our area in our own little way. A scholarship is a vote of confidence in your abilities and future success. Franklin Benjamin once said an investment in knowledge pays the best interest”, Lifaka Njoke said.

He added that education is the manifestation of perfection already existing in man. “It is for this reason we have embarked on this scholarship award scheme because we are aware of the fact that educating a child is educating and developing a community”, he said.

Quizzed on how the selection of recipients was done, the president said recipients underwent a meticulous control mechanism supervised by the association. Recipients were drawn from the various communities from all the clans of Limbe without any bias or favour, The SUN learnt.

“The gesture might be deemed small but our intention is clear; to fully demonstrate the interest to encourage the acquisition of knowledge by our children. We pray to do better next year especially with the availability of the means. Trust us, with God Almighty, we shall put smiles on more faces”, Lifaka Njoke said.

He denounced the fact that they are looked upon as an antagonistic movement aimed at acting as a stumbling block on the path of others. “The above assertions are not and cannot be true about us. There are mere insinuations which are unfounded and propagated by persons out of ignorance”, Lifaka Njoke said.

Litimbiseh La Vho’o has as motto love, unity, dignity and community development. Meanwhile their objective remains to ensure love, community unity, progress and success while protecting their ancestral and cultural heritage.

“We are here to encourage love and fraternity through the promotion of a strong sense of solidarity while also encouraging the culture and tradition of the Limbe people. We equally strive to act in one accord in every aspect concerning the geographical and cultural zones (Isu, Wovia, and Bakweri/ Bomboko), natives as well as members”, Lifaka Njoke added.

He stressed that they focus to promote education, professionalisation, linguistic and cultural education of the younger generation.

Parents of the beneficiaries thanked Litimbiseh La Vho’o  for the scholarship and back-to-school materials. The event was attended by members Wovia traditional council, elites, representative of the Chief of Wovia, parents of the pupils, students among others.

More than 80 pupils and students of the Bwassa-Likombe community in Buea Subdivision, South West Region of Cameroon, have begun the 2025/2026 academic year with renewed hope after receiving school didactic materials from Bookers Inter Trade International Enterprise.

The donation exercise, which took place on Friday, September 5, at the Bwassa-Likombe Government Primary School, brought together traditional authorities, community leaders, the local health centre, teachers, parents, and children in a ceremony marked by gratitude and celebration.

The initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Barrister Molua Smith Becke, CEO of Bookers Inter Trade International, who underscored the value of empowering children through education.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Irene Etombi, Dr. Becke described education as the greatest gift a child can receive. “An empowered child is the light for the family, the community, and the nation,” he affirmed. Coming just days before schools reopen on September 8, the gesture was described as a timely boost to parents already struggling to secure their children’s educational needs. Beneficiaries received school bags, books, pens, and other essential supplies to support their studies.

Receiving the materials on behalf of the school, Head Teacher, Cathy Ngomba expressed heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Becke and called on parents to play their part in ensuring children remain in school. “This is a wonderful gesture from Mola Becke. He has been assisting us for a long time, and I urge parents to make use of the materials available so our children can receive quality education for their future,” she said. The Head Teacher reminded parents that registration at the institution remains free of charge.

Community voices echoed the same gratitude. Likombe Council Chairman, Motome Paul, praised the initiative and urged parents to put the donation to proper use. “I have never seen such a gift to the community. Let us ensure the gifts handed to us are well used when schools resume, and let us not waste the infrastructure the government has provided,” he remarked.

Parents too were visibly touched. Speaking on their behalf, Pauline Makoko thanked the donor and prayed for God’s blessings on him, while appealing for continuity of the initiative. “Some of us have four or five children who have benefited from this gesture. I hope that in the future, this community can also become donors” she said.

The project was coordinated on the ground by Irene Etombi, head of the Back-to-School Campaign. Explaining why Bwassa-Likombe was chosen, she said the team believed every child deserves a chance to learn. “We want every child to have access to education and not be left behind. We look forward to returning here next year and extending this initiative to other communities” she stated.

She further emphasised that education requires collective commitment. “The children must study and work hard. We cannot do it for them. Parents, too, must keep encouraging their children on the importance of education” she urged.

As the children proudly clutched their new school supplies, hope was rekindled in Bwassa-Likombe. The smiles on their faces reflected more than just relief, it was a sign of possibility. With education widely recognised as the most powerful tool for shaping futures, the Bookers Inter Trade International initiative has planted seeds of empowerment in a community eager to see its children succeed.

At the close of the ceremony, community members expressed optimism that the programme would not only continue but also expand to benefit more children in neighbouring areas. For now, the over 80 pupils and students who walked home with new school materials carry not just books and pens, but also the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
