The leader of Now Movement, international legal luminary and anti corruption strong man, Barrister Akere Muna, joined the UPC to celebrate the party’s 77th anniversary, amidst threats of administrative ban on the rally. The event which took place recently in Makak, Nyong and Nkelle Division, Centre Region of Cameroon, served as an opportunity for the fearless politician to begin his nationwide tour ahead of the 2025 presidential election. During the event, Akere Muna, accompanied by members of the Union des Populations du Cameroun (UPC) , executives of opposition Popular Action Party (PAP) , members of civil society groups and those of Now Movement, was received with a hilarious welcome in Makak, as the population jubilated in songs and dance at the view of the delegation. Reports say while Akere Muna took to the rostrum, an order from the local administration in the area had instructed the police to stop him from addressing the crowd, but to no avail. An officer is reportedly quoted to have responded that, “Do you know Akere Muna well?…This man is not someone we can dabble with”.Akere Muna told Cameroonians from all walks of life across political parties to be ready to fight for change, for democracy is never given on a platter of gold . The SUN gathered that Akere Muna was given a traditional cup by a teenager who addressed him as the ‘President of the third Republic’. According to the teenager, the cup symbolises blessings from Um Nyombe, one of the great nationalists of the UPC who paid the ultimate price for his activism. Muna is being praised for his fearless nature in pushing his Change Agenda for Cameroon. He recently secured the support of some opposition political parties, through his endorsement as the coalition candidate by Universe political party and co signed by PAP and a dissident faction of the UPC.Barrister Akere Muna, according to his followers is the presidential candidate who will bring an eldorado to Cameroon. Most if not all supporting Akere for the 2025 Presidential election in Cameroon are of the opinion that his antecedents on the global stage as an anti corruption crusader, former vice president of transparency international and promoter of good governance and democracy will turn the tides in Cameroon following decades of entrenched leadership. While others believe that no opposition leader can defeat the CPDM-led party, Akere Muna supporters hold strong that he is gathering steam across the country and will stage the David and Goliath scene in the Bible come October. Also present at the event was senior politician and Now Movement coordinator for North West and South West, Mudoh Walter.
